so I have been working on a fic set in Naomi Novik's Temeraire series. It involves Choiseul and his dragon Praecursoris.

I thought (FOOL ME) that it was a made up character.

I have six thousand words in this fic.

And then I googled the name and discovered he existed! Nooooooo! This reverses and upends things! NOOOOO!

Oh, but I did work a horse in! Two random travellers (one of my characters is on a looong journey in Italy, don't ask) have been horsemen. So I consider myself having fulfilled your challenge :p So HA!
