Title: Island Inferno
Author: Chuck Holton
Length: 371 pages
Cover: Here.

I read this book awhile ago (like, in June awhile-ago). The plot--it's a convoluted plot that eventually resolves into a relationship book--features the male protagonist as a special forces task force after an explosive that is resembles water (hence the danger) and a female protagonist who is a grad looking towards an expedition into the wilderness (I cannot remember the location: I believe it is somewhere in Central America's islands). Unfortunately, I was looking for an adventure/suspense story, and it was not very exciting. The relationship between the two was dull, too. It's a passable story--there's nothing wrong with it, except for the fact that it's not interesting, especially as it's marketed as suspense. I don't recommend this book: it's not a fail, just a meh. 7.5/10

Title: Bought
Author: Anna David
Length: 272 pages
Cover: Here.

This is a rather moralistic story. The narrator is a journalist trying to get work, who ends up reporting in L.A.; it is a cynical look at things. The protagonist ends up trying to get a good story (while fending off scam-like offers that she nearly falls for--or does, I can't remember) and befriends what would be (modern day) courtesans. All of them are unhappy with their lives.

It was an okay book, but it definitely didn't live up to the back cover. It was also very heavy with the morales. I was interested enough to keep reading it in bits and pieces (we were at a choir thingy, and kept running in and out of the place). The spurned male lead was awesome, though, and it's a pity the focus was on the reporter instead. Another meh book. 7.5/10

Title: A Stitch in Time
Author: Kathy Lette
Length: 249

This book is about a TV reporter (female) and her gradual deterioating marriage to her plastic-surgeon husband. I write this review because it was written with a direct, witty voice and it made me laugh. Lots of fun, and the end message is along the lines of: "Don't try to change your appearance or yourself to please someone--that perfection is unattainable--just hold your head up." And though the whole plot was a bit strange (somehow, death-row-convicts that are redeemed show up at the end) and one unfortunate lightning strike, I liked this story lots. Plus, it was a lot less anvilicious than Bought, above. 8.5/10
