Why do I get more done between the hours of midnight and one o'clock than any other time added together? Especially when I should be in bed asleep by midnight?

ARGH. (You'll notice it is 12:59am. Or midnight by the time I post this.)

Because you're procrastinating on sleep? Because tiredness helps suppress all the reasons you usually have for not getting things done? Because it's a magical hour of wonders?

...I've wondered that myself, though it's not as true for me as it used to be (not 00:00 - 01:00 specifically, but times when I should have been asleep, definitely).

I think it's because it's basically down to deadline time: I have to sleep and that means everything that needs to have been done today needs to get done now. External deadlines have always been extremely motivational; internal ones, not so much :P
