In the context of what 18 century France, Britain, and the Thirteen Colonies had to pay, and why--our taxes are pathetically small and fair. Really. At least the poorest aren't paying all the taxes now.

I'm not sure what you mean...are you saying we (I'm speaking as a citizen of Canada, by the way) don't know where our taxes are going?

well here in america we have gotten away from the idea our founding fathers had....America in the beginning had no taxes....the income tax came but we where informed as to where the money went....now we r taxed and not told where its going...im not upset that we r taxed im upset that i dont know what im paying for

I believe that the founding fathers found (unintentional alliteration, sorry) that it was hard to make the states pay up, so the constitution was amended and taxes levied directly from the people. :| I'm pretty sure the American government publishes budgets, shortfalls, and things like that, though, and is pressured forced to spend the tax money on American citizens most of the time.

My point in the original article, though, was that at least there isn't something like 8% of the national budget going into the king's "private expenses." Like building a absolutely massive, horrendously expensive palace. But pretty.

umm as an american i do have it very well even though im not happy with the socialist manner in which the country is going...but does the country publish everything no absolutely not...it is very hard for the public to find the truth...

i am currently at the university of Houston for constitutional principals... there is only one individual who publishes the real info and that is ron paul look up his info
