As per the subject-line, I don't think you can read any significance into the apparent preference for the letter D. However, and for whatever (probably little) it might be worth, I picked D for a reason. Namely, that I was born on the 4th (and so?) four is my favourite number and D is the fourth letter of the alphabet.
You mean the people who publish scientific studies with a sample size 6 and then claim that their conclusions are universal aren't practising good science?!
(I am glad you answered, though! I love hearing thought processes for otherwise mundane things.)
Why yes, I very much mean exactly that! Also, pop-sociology books based on interviews the author has conducted with a half-dozen of his or her friends, along with a few hours of surfing the latest American television shows.
*twitch* Yes. I personally want to lobby for newspapers and magazines, if they report on new studies, to add the author, volume where it was published - basically a citation. It wouldn't be much work and it would make things easier for readers who want to look it up and they might actually read it!
This (http://languagelog.ldc.upenn.edu/nll/?p=3912) came across my flist the other day. !
How ODD! I thought - this is daft - no question. OK erm.... d!
I didn't like a) too pushy. b),a second best. c) too much of a compromise. d) felt... like it wanted to go walkies. never even looked at e). he stays in and moans all the time!
But it is wierd when so many have chosen 'd'!! I wonder what that signifies?
Edited to add. Another wierd thing! there are TEN participants and only NINE votes. 6 plus 1x3? EH?
I don't know what it signifies, especially when there was no question! I was in a rush to make a test poll so I just hit a b c d and then posted.
e) is indeed very annoying. On tests, that's always the "none of the above" answer >.<
I...I guess someone clicked "answer poll" without actually selecting a radio button. o.O Oooh, it must have been trixieleitz, who is too cool for the alphabet, and went with numbers instead :P
