yuletide reveals and general writing 2013
Jan. 1st, 2014 04:30 pmI wrote two fics this year and received two. I defaulted and didn't think I'd get any, so I couldn't believe my luck. You should read my gift fics, if you're in the Old Kingdom fandom! I have two adventure/exploration fics for Lirael and the Disreputable Dog, as they go exploring in the great Clayr library: After Hours by the_antichris and Discoveries to Share by Sheeana.
I wrote A Sea Change (2,868 words) for Phantom (
rosabelle) which is fork-in-the-road AU for Jehanne/Moirin, and which I think is pretty unsurprising (I felt extremely not-anon during the entire exchange). I JUST THINK THAT JEHANNE SHOULDN'T HAVE DIED. They are so gorgeous together. Yeah. Not over it. Never over it.
I think Jehanne is really quite perceptive when it comes to people. I wonder if this is why Daniel loved her so much. I want to write something pre-Kiss about Jehanne and Daniel and Raphael, actually.
I also wrote Traveller's Lodging (620 words) for kaesa (
kaesa) for Madness. I got to this point and then went "oh no but how do I keep going". I have to think of some way of reorganizing things so I can keep going!
Conclusion: more research is in order. Also as I was writing this I was researching early medieval Europe which is a very different thing and it was all...14th century! Focus on England! Oh noes!
I would like to say right now that I HATE TITLES. I shall start a Society for the Abrogation of Titles. Or Titles Anonymous, for writers suffering from the terribleness of trying to pick a title. For A Sea Change all I could think of was a pun (and I'm so sorry--but hey I used title case! It was even more pretentious before!) and as for kaesa's, I literally ran out of time and had to slap the most terribad title on. Yeah, about that...

This year I wrote and finished 4 fic: two in Kushiel's Legacy, one in Old Kingdom, and one in Time Traveller's Guide to 14th Century England. Of all the fics I wrote, I think I liked the Old Kingdom one best (By breakwater and river), because I got to write action and I love adventure/action/case/mission kinds of novels and stories best. AO3 says that 2013's output is 9447 words, which is an increase of almost precisely 200% (2.003815...) over 2012. The majority was in By breakwater and river, which is 4K.
In other writing, I have few hard numbers because I'm really bad at recording stuff in spreadsheets. I did not finish Nanowrimo for the first time ever, but I did start on an unmentionable project, and finally wrote treats for yuletide, so overall, still happy! I blame the craziness of this year. You know what I still have to finish? That Mavros/Amarante fic. It's still sitting at 11K with zero progress since December 2012 *facepalm* I need a kick in the pants.

Date: Jan. 2nd, 2014 04:48 am (UTC)haha, can i also join your Titlephobics Anonymous group? 'Cause I could not think of a title for that Imriel/Maslin fic to save my life. I changed it about 5 times before I posted it. now most times for me- it's actually easier.
i've been a bit busy lately but i definitely want to read your gift fics! and i would read the shit out of your 11k Mavros/Amarante story :D

Date: Jan. 2nd, 2014 05:28 pm (UTC)FOREVER HEARTS ABOUT JEHANNE/MOIRIN
We need a society. Help help, I'm suffering from titling woes! And the worst of it is you have to write a title, and there's a deadline, and everything sounds stupid! Bleh. I was talking to someone who actually keeps a spreadsheet of titles because she kept accidentally using the same ones! "Vralian Resolutions" sounds perfectly fine though to me :)
I managed to score two adventure/exploration stories and I'm still a bit giddy because I love seeing the Clayr library! (I still think that library is the coolest. Also dangerous, but whatever :D)
I should really work on that fic. It's more of "Amarante's year of service" with, er, extra emphasis on Mavros. But so far it's more of Amarante/Sidonie and Amarante/OFC and Sidonie/Imriel shenanigans than anything else D:

Date: Jan. 3rd, 2014 02:16 am (UTC)I wish we could be like composers. "Nocture in E Major" is a perfectly fine title there. "Prose about spaceships" should be perfectly fine too. HMPH.
