I have resolved to post as often as possible--daily, hopefully. And at that quantity, my posts will be deathly dull and perhaps interesting: hopefully the latter, but I have no idea. No use having an online journal that never gets used, anyway.

So, we were learning about passé simple in French. And the nice thing about French is that usually, the conjugations (of verbs) are really quite easy: remember the endings, and slap 'em on. But, because this is a language, there are exceptions.

Now, the verb "être" is irregular. Very  much so. Usually it's conjugated as "je suis, il est, ..." In the past participle, it's "été". And then in passé simple, it's "fus".

Everyone sort of went: "WHAT?" because there is no indication anywhere that an "f" belongs there. My classmate, I think, said it best: "We think the f is there because some scribe made a typo."
