I finished Lucky by Jackie Collins last night; it's about - erm, a lot of characters -  that are all part of the jet-set super rich glamorous group. It was not exactly an uplifting book - I finished it and sort of went: "Well, the world is not a very good place, is it?" and went to sleep. Lots of random "Hey-I'll-marry-you-on-the-spot-I-hardly-know-your-last-name" and all the anonymity it confers,  lots of betrayals, backstabbings, lots of drugs and sex, as well as lots of money, money, money. It left me with the impression that life is not very glamorous for the glamorous. The only thing is, at chapter 86 (there's something like 120 chapters in the book) the book's prose switched abruptly (the only real in-love couple who are protagonists are getting into a relationship of sorts) and that threw me.

Random switching and mixing of metaphors is annoying, as well as the newspaper jargon that never quite fits with the rest of the text. A thesauraus does not give you words with identical meanings! :(  Things like "oomph" and "shot dead" (argh!) and other words like that.
