*breaking into giggles*

(article decrying Nanowrimo). The Quote That Made Me Stop and Gape: the selfless art of reading are being taken over by the narcissistic commerce of writing.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...*wheeze*

(also, that's a grammar mistake there: it should be "is", because "art" is singular, not plural). Perhaps you should write more?

The concept of having fun. Of taking up wild challenges. Of daring yourself to do something that's not dangerous but still exciting and all that. Do these concepts even register?

Edited to add: and I just got Mercedes Lackey's pep talk in my inbox, and I'm floored that she advised writing fanfiction. Floored. I think there are approximately two professional writers I know of who approve and encourage it. Wow.

I know, I read that article and I went and had a not-very ranty-rant on my lj. When will people realize that the point of NaNoWriMo is not to write the next great American novel, but to challenge yourself, to push yourself beyond your established limits, and to enjoy yourself while at it? /is annoyed because all people tell me is: "but I can't write a novel!!!!"

And Mercedes Lackey's pep talk is awesome. Fanfiction is amazing for developing your skills as a writer, especially because it has such an amazing writer/beta dynamic and also a great feedback (even though most of it is either ridiculously positive or ridiculously negative) system.
mercredigirl: Speech bubble: We do it because we can't *not* do it. (Girl Comics: we can't)

I know, and NaNo is really about pushing one's limits -- has anyone, I wonder, noticed that my word counts always end in either 0 or 5? Heh. Well, hello there, OCD. I'm doing NaNo to try and see whether I can embrace those tics and still make it through, fingers crossed and God willing.

Silly anti is silly.
