Interesting to read about the Kaufman birding book. I would like to pick it up. We live in the woods and sometimes in May and June you can sit outside and hear the calls of like 5-7 different species simultaneously, it's so cool. We have learned to identify the most common ones and the ones that come out into the open the most. But I know there's a lot of other ones out there. Like one time a Swainson's thrush flew into the window (it was okay! we rehabbed it for a few hours and we let it go and its mate was still waiting for it in the trees), and I never see them just hanging around but after I ID'd it, I learned more about them and listened to recordings of their calls so now I can tell when there's one outside even if I can't see it. I've been wanting to get into it more so that sounds like a good book for me to pick up! Thanks for the rec :) love reading about other people's books
